EN 45545-2 Certification – Sponge Silicone
Sponge Silicone Certified to EN 45545-2 for HL1, HL2, and HL3 under R22 and R23
Merefsa has obtained EN 45545-2 certification for its medium-density flame-retardant sponge silicone, reinforcing our commitment to safety and innovation in the European railway sector. This standard defines fire performance requirements for interior (R22) and exterior (R23) railway applications, with HL3 representing the highest level of passenger and infrastructure protection. The material successfully passed oxygen index (OI), smoke density (Ds), and gas toxicity (CIT) tests conducted by the CURRENTA laboratory in Germany, ensuring compliance with the strictest flammability, smoke, and toxicity criteria.
Thanks to its closed-cell structure, sponge silicone combines lightness, thermal and acoustic insulation, vibration absorption, and excellent compression resistance, while maintaining flexibility and durability even under extreme conditions (from -60 °C to +200 °C), as well as high humidity and exposure to chemical or environmental agents.
These properties make it ideal for gaskets, seals, extruded profiles, HVAC seals, insulation, and anti-vibration components used in trains, subways, and trams. Its versatility allows adaptation to different thicknesses and technical requirements.
With this new certification, in addition to the one already obtained for its solid silicone, Merefsa now offers a complete range of EN 45545-2 certified materials (R22 and R23, levels HL1, HL2, and HL3), consolidating its position as a trusted supplier of sealing, insulation, and protection solutions for the railway industry.
