EC Certification 1935/2004 THT, Metal Detectable and Steam Silicones
Merefsa tests its THT, metal detectable and steam-resistant silicones for food contact under EC 1935/2004
Our THT (high temperature), metal detectable and steam-resistant silicones have passed the food contact tests of the BfR recommendation XV, carried out by Intertek (report no. FUFDCP2026-05679, 2 October 2026) under Regulation (EC) No 1935/2004.
With every delivery Merefsa issues a food contact declaration of conformity that states compliance with FDA 21 CFR 177.2600, Regulation (EC) No 1935/2004 and Regulation (EC) No 2023/2006 on good manufacturing practice.
Three silicones, three properties
- THT silicone: high temperature resistance, with continuous service from -60 ºC up to +280 ºC.
- Metal detectable silicone: detectable by magnetic field and X-ray systems, to ensure safety in the food production line. Service from -60 ºC up to +180 ºC.
- Steam-resistant silicone: our own formulation for humid air and water steam, with service from -60 ºC up to +150 ºC (4.0 bar) and up to +180 ºC in dry air.
Test results
| Test (limit) | Condition | THT | Metal detectable | Steam |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Extractable components (max. 0.5 %) | Demineralised water, 5 h / 100 ºC | n.d. | n.d. | n.d. |
| Extractable components (max. 0.5 %) | Acetic acid 3 %, 5 h / 100 ºC | 0.12 % | n.d. | n.d. |
| Extractable components (max. 0.5 %) | Ethanol 10 %, 5 h / 100 ºC | n.d. | n.d. | n.d. |
| Volatile organic compounds, VOC (max. 0.5 %) | 4 h / 200 ºC | 0.188 % | 0.146 % | 0.224 % |
| Peroxides (no positive reaction) | BfR method BII XV/C | No positive reaction | No positive reaction | No positive reaction |
n.d. = not determinable, below the reporting limit (0.1 %). All three silicones meet every requirement.
